Tasting Tomorrow
Tasting Tomorrow
Tasting Tomorrow is an interdisciplinary environmental humanities project exploring how traditional foodways and culinary practices may evolve in response to climate-driven ecological change and shifting ingredient availability. Through collaborative workshops, experimental cooking sessions, and community dialogue, the project examines how cultural identity, nutritional knowledge, and culinary heritage might be preserved under changing environmental conditions.
The project adopts an applied and participatory research methodology by preparing popular Naga dishes using projected climate-adapted ingredients. Instead of relying entirely on customary ingredients, participants experiment with substitute food items that may become more commonly available under future climate scenarios. These culinary interventions encourage reflection on resilience, adaptation, food sovereignty, and the long-term sustainability of traditional cuisines.
Tasting Tomorrow forms part of broader conversations on climate adaptation, Indigenous and local knowledge systems, ecological futures, and community-based environmental stewardship.
Project Information
The project explores how traditional foodways and culinary practices might evolve in response to climate-driven changes in ingredient availability, while maintaining cultural identity and nutritional value. By cooking with climate-adapted ingredients, the researchers demonstrate how communities might preserve food traditions while adapting to environmental shifts.
